Course Outline

Overview

The ICT Syllabus at GEMS Wesgreen International Primary School aims to support students in becoming independent and confident users of computers. We provide students with activities employing the use of computer parts such as mouse and keyboard. We apply cross-curricular links with subjects like mathematics, science, whilst building on their ICT skills.

ICT fosters all the subjects, motor skills and enhances the creativity of kindergarten children.

Learning Outcomes

The aims of all subjects state what a teacher may expect to teach and what a student may expect to experience and learn. These aims suggest how the student may be changed by the learning experience.

The aims of the ICT Syllabus are to encourage and enable students to:

  • Be a confident user of the computer, for both pleasure and information.
  • Appreciate our rich and varied literary heritage.
  • Use the computer independently and freely.
  • Use discussion in order to learn; they should be able to elaborate and explain clearly their understanding and ideas

Ongoing Objectives

There are objectives that are covered throughout the academic year. The main objective is to use ICT as a support of the following:-

  • Early literacy skills.
  • Early mathematics skills
  • Cognitive skill
  • Social-emotional skills
  • Creativity
  • Special education
  • Gifted children

The objectives that are covered and built upon throughout each task. ICT Education engages with all subjects – Literacy, Maths, Communication and Language, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Personal, Emotional and Social Development. We have deep link with all subjects to support the class teacher in different ways to complete the understanding of the lesson in the class. Its game program fun pleasure to do it, to get knowledge in different way. We compound between learning how to use the computer, how to hold the mouse, click, drag, type using the keyboard, Know the entire key in keyboard, and learning in the class.

Unit Overviews

Term 1

In this first term of KG 1/ Year 1, the children will explore the computer part. This opening unit allows the teachers to build a rapport with the students as they introduce objects and activities they like. The students look at the computer game like a game to have fun and pleasure to play it, but also we build knowledge to learn how to use the computer throw all the subject.

Unit 1: Mouse skills

Approximate Length: 8 Weeks

Use technology purposefully to create, organize, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content. For explain how the student can hold the mouse in proper way and click the right bottom, the teacher will compound these skills with the entire subject that the teacher give them in the class.

Specific National Curriculum Objectives Covered:

  • To understand what ICT stand for.
  • To understand how they are implemented as programs on digital devices
  • To know how to execute programs by following precise and unambiguous instructions
  • To build the skills throw implemented as programs on digital devices

Unit 2: Mouse Skills Part tow

Approximate Length: 7 Weeks

For click and drag, the teacher will explain that skill in many deferent ways to make the student enjoy and learn new skill in same time. To get knowledge when we explain different purposes. To consider and evaluate different viewpoints, attending to and building on the contributions of others.                 

Specific National Curriculum Objectives Covered:

  • To recognize common uses of information technology beyond school.
  • To develop mouse control

Term 2

In this term, the children go to next level they will be more confidant to use there device. Use technology purposefully to create, organize, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content. Recognize common uses of information technology beyond school.

Unit 2: Coding (Instruction)

Approximate Length: 5 Weeks

To learn the student how understand the concept of coding and follow the instruction and get more knowledge in direction.

Specific National Curriculum Objectives Covered:

  • To use technology purposefully to create, organize, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content
  • To recognize common uses of information technology beyond school.
  • To understand how to follow the instructor and direction.

Unit 3: Keyboard

Approximate Length: 5 Weeks

In this point, the student be able to recognize the letter to use the keyboard. Every once in a while program about letter and the sound of letter upper and lower case and other key.

Specific National Curriculum Objectives Covered:

  • To use a keyboard to produce text on screen, and develop familiarity with letters, numbers, backspace, arrow keys and space bar
  • To recognize common uses of information technology beyond school.

Term 3

In this term, the student develop their skills. Use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.  We identify the structure and the students will finish the task with pleasure.

Unit 4: E-Safety

Approximate Length: 2 Weeks

First week to explain how we can be safe when we use the internet, the rules the student have to know why we have to follow the rules.

Second Week the procedure that we have to follow when we use the internet.

Specific National Curriculum Objectives Covered:

  • To use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.
  • To use technology purposefully to create, organize, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content

Unit 5: Keyboard (Typing)

Approximate Length: 5 Weeks

In these, point the teacher need to make sure the entire student have confidant to use the keyboard by typing freely and use the other key like arrow.

  • To use technology purposefully to create, organize, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content
  • To recognize common uses of information technology beyond school.
  • To develop mouse control

Assessment

Formative: Throughout the units, the children will be observed daily during their focus and continuous provision activities. The observations will help inform next steps and planning.

Summative: Summative: At the end of each term we complete internal and standardized tests. This allows us to measure the students’ progress throughout the term and year. At the end of the academic year, the students complete the EYFS profile.
